Pivotal Publications Colloquium is Exactly That

Star Icon

On September 19, 2008, The University of Connecticut Division of Student Affairs and the HESA Graduate Program hosted the Third Annual Pivotal Publications Colloquium. The Pivotal Publications Colloquium is designed to encourage dialogue about a significant publication that had a lasting effect on student affairs practice. The 2008 subject was The Rights and Responsibilities of the Modern University (Robert D. Bickel and Peter F. Lake, 1999). Co-author of the book, Peter Lake, was our featured speaker. In the morning, Mr. Lake gave an informative and entertaining keynote speech and took questions from the audience. Those in attendance were left with an understanding of his perspectives on the field- and with a big smile. During a relaxed luncheon, he joined three panelists for a discussion After lunch, current students in the HESA program were treated to a personal question and answer session which provided an informative forum and opportunity for students to ask questions about everything from alcohol abuse prevention to freedom of information issues. One student remarked, “honestly, I thought his knowledge of pop culture and student life was amazing… this is a guy who is connected with what students know, do, and care about.”
