HESA students take their Assessment Class project a giant leap toward practical application. Liz Green and Pat Duffy, two students in the HESA 2009 cohort, have received a Secondary Award of the National Association of College Activities (NACA) Research Grant for 2009. In a class taught by Professor George Allen, Liz and Pat worked with fellow students Kendra Darigan and Erin McClellan to develop a tool to measure values associated with leadership, which they call the Leadership Values Inventory. With the help of their TA Beth Springate, they intend to use their instrument in a longitudinal study of leadership value development amongst first year college students. The NACA grant award letter states that the organization “believes this study to be important to campus activities professionals at institutions across the country,” and the award will include a stipend to be applied to the research, priority consideration for presentation at upcoming conferences, priority consideration for publication by the NACA, and announcement of the award in NACA publications.
